Is it just us or is Toronto getting busier? A typical Canada Day 6 or 7 years ago consisted of grabbing some tall cans with friends, drinking in a park and watching the fireworks from the one location along the waterfront. All that has changed my friends.
With less than a week to throw together any plans, we decided to give you a guideline of what you can enjoy in, around and far away from the city.
In Toronto:
Fireworks. And lots of them. There are 8 scheduled firework events throughout the city to ensure that everyone from every neighbourhood has a chance to catch them. On top of that, there are festivals at Queen’s Park, the Harbourfront, Mel Lastman Square and anywhere that your friends are. Grab your squa and some beers and celebrate our 149th birthday!
Electric Island. For all those vibed out kids who want to hit up the island, pump up the volume and party hardy. This weekend will kick off the whole summer long series and this time it features Âme, Apollonia, Green Velvet, Claude Vonstroke, and more!
For those that want to have some daytime fun, Brickworks is celebrating Lester P. Beerson Day! Sample some Ontario craft beer paired with some eats and be back downtown before the big bang.
Around Toronto:
Ribfest in Etobicoke. Imagine a day filled with drinks and meat and ending with fireworks. Sounds like heaven to me!
If you live in the area outside the GTA, there will be fireworks happening throughout most boroughs and towns, including Wonderland! Jump on those coasters by day and celebrate with all the works by night!
Far far away:
What better place than to celebrate Canada Day than in the nation’s capital? It’s a time of year that Ottawa festivities really shine through. To get there, you can bus, train or rent a car with some buds and AirBnB your weekend in the city!
If you can’t spend 4 to 5 hours in transit getting to Ottawa, jump down to Niagara Falls for the day. I mean, how could you turn down free birthday cake? Take in some natural sights, take a cruise, sip some booze and watch the sky light up!
There are plenty of things to do in and around the city! What better excuse than Canada Day to drink some ice cold beverages?
