Summer is over, fellow city dwellers, but that doesn’t mean that the fun has to end! The days and nights spent sitting in a park or on a patio are dwindling so we decided to throw together a list of exciting things happening in Toronto this season. Layer up, holler at your friends and make your way to some of these events!
Oktoberfest: If you love beer, meat and prosting, you will want to enjoy these festivities around the city. Some events last one day, some over a week. There is even an option for vegans. Grab your squad and celebrate all things autumn!
Queen West Art Crawl: The first couple of days of October will give you a chance to take a stroll through the hip Queen West neighbourhood and experience this festival! Art, music, and even a beer garden will sprinkle Trinity Bellwoods Park all weekend long. Maybe you will even find a little Canadiana art for the home.
Nuit Blanche: This will be the first year that this all-nighter art exhibit will go without Scotiabank’s sponsorship. With less installations and performances, it might offer a more personable experience than years past. Nevertheless, it’s an iconic event that gets a million people to walk around the streets at night!
World Press Photo @ Brookfield Place: If you love photography and photojournalism, you will probably want to attend the world’s most prestigious photo contest! Some of the images will shock you, but all of them will impress you. You will be moved.
The Moth: Maybe you’ve heard of this storytelling group or listened to the podcast. In any event, The Moth arrives at Massey Hall. True stories will be told live to the audience by Ophira Eisenberg, a Calgary-native who now lives in New York.
Art Toronto: Another art festival hits the city at the end of October! Celebrating modern and contemporary art at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre for the 17th year. It’s an important event for art lovers if you want to see what it’s all about!
International Festival of Authors: If you love books, you will want to attend the International Festival of Authors. Big names will be in attendance, including Margaret Atwood, Lawrence Hill and Yann Martel. This is a bookworm’s paradise!
Canzine: Have you ever had a zine? These tiny, little magazines are usually made by crafty creators and range from comics to poetry. Luckily, you can see and buy a lot of them at Canzine, which is a great way to support local artists!
One Of A Kind Show: If you are looking for unique gifts for the holidays, you will need to attend the One Of A Kind Show. This marketplace will run for over a week, but make sure you get there early!
Royal Winter Fair: A historic event that happens every year in the city, the Royal Winter Fair is a chance for city dwellers to experience rural life. You will learn about animals, watch horseback jumping and see top chefs compete!
Christmas Market in the Distillery District: This is the most magical place in the city at the end of fall. The Distillery District transforms into a place where you can sip on some mulled wine, nibble some treats and take in all the twinkling lights. If you’ve never experienced it, you have to see it. Just make sure you go early as it gets really, really busy.
Even if you don’t make it to any of the above, make sure you get out there and enjoy the changing season. Cooler breezes and colourful leaves are the perfect conditions for enjoying some beers with buddies.
